Dental assistant interview questions to ask

DearCustomer

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this question.

If the hiring process is working the best that it can, that is you have done a candidate screening and selection process from a pool of qualified applicants. This is done by reviewing stated resumes and appication forms in response to an ad or unsolicited.

You already know, from the resume and application, that you have a qualified candidate.

The purpose of the interview is to establish rapport, ensure that you and the new candidate are a fit, and to verify or get a sence of the validiy of the candidates experience.

With all of this in mind, the following questions should be used for all candidates.

1. Establish rapport: Tell them a little bit about yourself and the company. 1 minuet tops. ASK: them to tell them about themselves and their career.

What you are looking for besides establishing rapport, is to see how their communication skills are. They should keep this to one minute or less. You are not looking for a biography. You want to get a sence of where they are from, educational and work histroy.

2. MOST Important Question: Why did you leave your last job? This is the single most important question you can ask.

This question will tell you what motivates the candidate, and bring out if they might be a problem employee.

What you are looking for is:

  • If there was a problem, did they learn from it

  • If they were not getting along, did they discover why and deal with it.

  • Are they able to describe their experience in positive terms.

  • Can they honestly state that they failed and do not dwell on it. (state a proble in about three words, and move on)

Just because someone was not a fit at the last positon or failed, does not mean they are not a candidate for your. You want to know how they dealt with theadverisity, learned from it, and are done with those issues. Personality clashes happen, and occassionally, the situation dictates that a person may not beable to overcome the barriers, and must leave the company. This does not mean they are not a viable candidate for you.

3. Ask them what is it about this job that appeals to them? You want to know there motivation and interest in the work. If they overlook a particularly boring aspect of the job, you need to bring that up in a followup question: What about dealing with patients who think they know more about denistry than you do?

4. Ask 3 questions, tops about their experience and back ground. Something like: Tell me about your job at___.

This is to get a since and feel for the accuracy of their resume or application, and how they felt about their jobs. Does this person really know what they are talking about.

5. Ask them about their career goals and aspirations. Where do they see themselves 5 years from now.

You are looking, I hope, for someone who has aspirations to grow and improve.

6. Customer service will be a big item for this position.

Ask them some how would you handle situations for Customer Service. (two or three is all that would be required)

7. Health Insurance Information Privacy Act. Ask if they know what this is and what it means to them.
